Materials & Craft
Built for daily life. Crafted to last.
At Mondsee, good jewelry shouldn't come with a shelf life. That's why every piece we make starts with one non-negotiable: gold-filled construction.
What Is Gold-Filled?
Gold-filled jewelry is made by pressure-bonding a thick layer of solid gold to a base metal core — resulting in a piece that contains 100x more gold than gold-plated jewelry. That difference is everything.
Unlike gold-plated jewelry, which can chip, flake, or tarnish within months, gold-filled holds its finish through daily wear, sweat, water, and time. It's the quality standard trusted by artisan jewelers for generations.
Why We Choose Gold-Filled Over Gold-Plated
Gold-plated jewelry uses a microscopically thin layer of gold — often less than 0.5 microns thick. It looks good in the moment, but the finish fades fast. Gold-filled bonds a layer of gold hundreds of times thicker, permanently, under heat and pressure — by standard, at least 5% of the piece's total weight is real gold.
The result: jewelry that looks as good on year two as it did on day one.
